ToneSmart
ToneSmart is an automated telephone credit and debit card processing system
also know as Interactive Voice Response or IVR. Based on Intel hardware technology, ToneSmart allows citizens to phone an
automated phone service using a number nominated by the council 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. The
ToneSmart system is designed to reduce the time spent dealing with members of the public
who wish to make payments for goods and services over the phone.
E-Payments systems in local government have traditionally focused on the Internet. However, Adelante has recognised that the majority of consumers still consider the telephone as the most convenient method of payment. Many consumers still feel
uncomfortable making web based payments or do not own a personal computer. At
present the vast majority of payments where the card holder is not present are made over the phone
and not on the Internet. This makes an automated telephone payment system a useful addition to any e-payments solution.
The automated voice prompts are scripted to the council's specifications and can include a regional dialect or a foreign language if required. The ToneSmart server located in your computer room and connected to LogSmart to ensure each payment is validated correctly. Utilising standard BT analogue or digital lines or alternatively Voice Over IP (VOIP) the service can start with as few as 4 concurrent telephone lines but can be upgrade if capacity requires.
