Adelante and PCIDSS
The card payment industry has seen some high profile examples of
data theft. Criminal gangs have stolen millions of credit and debit card numbers
and these have subsequently been used without the owners authorisation. To
counter this problem the credit and debit card industry has joined forces to
create the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCIDSS). Resulting from
collaboration between Visa and MasterCard, the PCI standard now has the support
of the majority of card schemes including American Express, Diners Club and JCB.
The program now encompasses every company that deals with card payment
transactions.
PCIDSS is a set of 12 requirements that combine to reduce the threat of credit
card fraud and increase
data security. As a card processor Adelante Software Limited has been
independently audited to ensure that the policies, procedures and security we
use conforms to the rigorous guidelines established as a part of the PCIDSS
requirements. This audit is conducted by a accredited third party company
trained superficially in the PCIDSS requirements by Visa and MasterCard.
If you are an organisation that stores, transmits or processes credit card
transactions, you are required to comply with this standard. Using a provider
that conforms to PCIDSS requirements makes this much easier although companies
must consider their own security and procedures when assessing their compliance.
